College Preparation Program

The Salzburg College College Preparation Program offers an immersive English language study combined with preparation for successful admission to American colleges and universities. This integrated 2-semester program focuses on English language proficiency, Western culture, university study skills, academic writing, and content-based coursework typical of American universities. Upon completion, students are guaranteed a seamless transfer to Salzburg College's School of Record, Northern Illinois University.

Program Highlights:

  • 2-semester condensed program
  • Intensive English Language (TOEFL) and College (SAT) Preparation Courses with native speakers
  • Option to complete initial university courses for qualifying students
  • Cultural training and placement with American students in host families or student dormitories
  • Support for transferring to Northern Illinois University or Salzburg College's new bachelor programs
  • Assistance in verifying the Goa Kao/DSE or equivalent through WES
  • Opportunity for Private Music lessons and Studio Art classes

Courses:

  • 4 semester-long courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction
  • 1 semester-long course in Western Culture (can substitute for college credit instead of SAT preparation)
  • 1 semester-long course in SAT preparation
  • 1-2 semester courses in Studio Art
  • 1-2 semester courses in Private Music Instrument Instruction (additional cost)

Program Structure:

  • Courses run Monday through Friday, totaling 15-21 hours per week.
  • Full-time program includes 4 courses per semester based on standard U.S. university class times.

Excursions:

  • Local excursions integral to the Western Culture program, providing experiences related to history, art, music, and modern life.

Housing:

  • Cultural immersion through living with Austrian families or sharing a dorm room with an American student.
  • Breakfast included; family accommodations available for students up to age 26.

Automatic Transfer to Northern Illinois University: Upon successful completion, students are automatically admitted to Northern Illinois University, USA, with three options for further studies.
